Sugar demons and feeling weak
29 juni 2026
Small hits of sugar is so great for the body. The mind and body starts to learn that the energy that it can use can easily hit you with a craving to feel the rush of sugar again. While the body needs to think, while the body begins to feel tired the quick sugar fix will feel great for the body to keep feeling as it always feels. It has reached a new homeostasis. An environment where it knows what to rely on and will not beg for any other source. This is about a lady who seeks sugars in the dark hours of the night, sneaking down the stairs with the pain in her knees to get another grab of something sweet. She might get some leftover chips left at the bottom of the bag or take her spoon through some peanut butter because the craving is so strong.
I need to go deeper into the understanding of insulin and possible inflammatory prohibitors or inflammatory advancers that are occurring and working in overdrive in her body. She feels heavy in all moments of the day and can’t stop thinking about food. She works in a lovely restaurant surrounded by beautifully crafted plates and meals that were cared for by the chef. She serves this food and has worked in hospitality for a while now, thats why she’s such a gentle, patient and kind person. I find it a shame that she is caught sneaking little bits of food in her mouth throughout the day and at night while her kids sleep. I could find the beginning of her pattern inside the restaurant, that she maybe skipped large meals and collected food leftovers in small amounts throughout the day until this became her normal. However, this is a suggestion of maybe how it may have started. The situation now is that she is in her menopause, in the delight of hormone change but confronted by the sugar demons.
She can’t cut out sugar but she should go back to a natural source of sugar. Processed sugar or sweets does not only give you the dopamine rush, but is full of additives because big sugar companies know exactly what they’re doing. Fruits that she loves, fruit that’s nostalgic. That’s what she needs to bring to work. Fruit is an amazing form of self care. The body gets to taste something from the Earth. The midnight snacking is usually a sign that the body hasn’t gotten all the calories it needed throughout the day. Then she experiences hunger but due to the new state of homeostasis she experiences this as sugar craving. May the process of menopause burn more calories than what she is used to? I know that when you’re on your period, the process of clearing old blood, removing unfertilised eggs and muscle usage requires almost constant energy and therefore the constant feeling of hunger (when you are under feeding or under supplying your body of nutrients). The trend of feeding your body with different sources of nutrient during different phases of your cycle is amazing and I am so happy that is something brought to light. Having too many options can create so much confusion and sometimes a person just wants to be told what’s right.
Mitochondria struggle to make energy and poor sleep quality are things I was able to find on the reason for energy change in menopausal women. If I can make a direct correlation to energy usage I may be incorrect. It seems more that due to the transitional phase in life, the mitochondria are not working coherently with adjacent cells, possibly coding change or out of sync with DNA codes from before, making a fertile body to now, not. The energy from mitochondria is longer lasting and a really good fuel. That fails the body and therefore more food is required. The lack of sleep can derive from the hormone change. You need regulated hormones to fall asleep and wake up at the correct times.
The lady has received the diagnosis diabetes two years ago and is receiving hormones through a patch on her arm. She is still working the same as she did and still expecting the same of her body. She wakes up craving sugar and most of the time gives in to it and has a really heavy strange dead legs feeling throughout the day in her entire body. This level of fatigue where it surpasses sleepiness will usually start to feel like heaviness, or joint pain or sensory loss in the body. To counteract sensory loss the body would appreciate some sugars, the electrical signals to the tips of your fingers and the tips of your toes need to work fast and need to burn quick. The fast sugar can help maintain the sensations and try their best to keep you feeling some sort of normal and not let your nerves fall asleep. The sugar that you consume can be healthy if you eat small amount and eat only what is necessary for your body. This lady is eating too much of it. Sugar is a sticky substance. Sugar can help things move around in the body but can also stop, take a seat and stick to the walls of arteries and veins and cells. It sticks and sits in places where it shouldn’t be. Now you have things in places where it shouldn’t be.
To think of tips to give her I take her diabetes into consideration. When I think of diabetes I think of apple cider vinegar hacks and maybe doubling the vegetable intake. Her hormonal changes are changing her wake hours but to ensure she doesn’t grab sugar immediately after waking, I want her to kill the craving with apple cider vinegar. To make it into a nice drink is what I would like her to become addicted to. Taking it in a warm drink will slow digestion in the morning and stabilise the insuline as I seem to have understood that is the potential effect of the apple cider vinegar intake. 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of honey and a squeeze of fresh lemon in a mug of warm water. I love that for neutralising the gut, to remove the glucose spike in the morning, for the natural sugars and a good wake up morning routine to take just that little bit longer for herself in the morning than a slice of bread with something. During the day she may only be seated with her meal and make the largest quantity on her plate, the vegetables. In the evening she wants something sweet, she wants something that tastes good and satisfies. Flax seeds, legumes, chia seeds, dark chocolate, lentils, soy, banana. I will have a talk with her this week to share all these advices and have a little look at all the suggested treats she can think about and see herself making at home.
